Watercolor/Pastel - Katherine Johnson of Lexington will guide participants in a method using a watercolor under painting with pastel overlay. There are a variety of interactions one can use with this technique-its up to your creativity. Katherine has a BA in Art History from the University of Kentucky and studied under Fay Moore. The cost is $65. Supply list will be furnished when you sign up.

Saturday February 28 10:00 to 2:00

Papermaking - Pam Wiseman, a fiber artist, of Ewing will teach students to make hand made paper using dried flowers, herbs, and leaves. Paper arts and crafts are popular right now, but handmade papers can be expensive. This class will teach you how to make your own handmade paper at home very easily by using recycled papers and common household items. The cost is $30. Supply list will be furnished when you sign up.

Friday July 24th 6:00 pm through July 28th

Watercolor - E. B. Lewis, internationally known fine art watercolorist and illustrator, will conduct a 4-day intermediate level workshop covering plein air painting, art theory, the study of light and value, all while improving your technical skills in watercolor. The class is limited to 12 participants. Six hours of instruction per day. Friday evening is arrivals and meet and greet reception. Cost $500. Exhibits

Artist's Opening Exhibit Reception is held on the first Friday of the opening month from 5:00-8:00 pm. Refreshments are served and this is the chance to meet the artists.

January - March

The gallery will feature works of David A. Kummer. David Arnold Kummer June 10, 1918 - September 19, 2008. David was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Wheaton, IL. David studied art at the Chicago Art Institute and the Chicago Academy of Arts. He became an avid photographer and gifted engraver. During the late 1930's he was employed as a commercial photographer. During that time he was a member of the Chicago Camera Club and the Fort Dearborn Camera Club, and was honored with many awards in photographic competitions including the Canadian National Exhibition, Sixth Annual & Third International Photographic Salon, Baltimore International Salon of Photography, St. Petersburg Salon of Pictorial photography, Detroit International Salon, Milwaukee Salon and several others. His professional life in photography was stilted when he was called to duty during World War II. After returning from the war, Mr. Kummer put his artistic talents to work as an engraver in West Chicago, IL.

David Kummer is the father of Kathleen Macht, co-owner of Banana Tree Studios, 121 E. Electric Ave., Flemingsburg.

April - May

Opening reception featuring Betsy Baltzer, Ken Swinson and other local artists April 5th at 5:00 pm.

June - July

Opening reception June 12th at 5 pm.

June - Fleming County Reading Program.

June 22nd Youth Art Camp Student Artcamp. Students ages 8 through 17 will have the opportunity to learn the basics in ceramics and watercolor/drawing. Classes consist of 6 students, begin at 8:00 am and run until noon. Cost $130 and includes most materials. 606-356-1357 to register.

August - September

Opening reception August 7th at 5 pm.

October

October National Arts and Humanities Month Opening reception for Student Art Show October 9th at 5 pm.

November

November - December Opening reception November 6 at 5 pm.





Special Events



June

The Fleming County School District and the Fleming County Library host a 3-day Reading Festival for children in June. The event brings authors, illustrators and storytellers from around the nation to share what they do with the children and their parents. Banana Tree Studios holds an evening lecture and reception for one of the visiting artists. June 2006 a reception and lecture by internationally known illustrator E.B. Lewis was held for a standing room only audience.

October

National Arts and Humanities month is celebrated with a student art exhibit. The gallery space is turned over to the Art Department of the school district and the youth experience exhibiting and selling their work. This is a great motivation and confidence builder for our future artists.
