Banana Tree Studios Art Gallery is located at 121 W Electric Ave, Flemingsburg, KY 41041 The Banana Tree Studios art gallery facility includes a teaching studio for classes in ceramic, pastels, oils and watercolors. Ken Macht offers ceramics classes for Raku, Stoneware and Earthenware. Ken's ceramic works are viewable from the Gallery page on the Banana Tree Studios website. Raku firing is not for the faint of heart as you can see from the photos of Ken on the Ceramics web page. The Raku process involves multiple firing cycles and glazing to achieve the beautiful crackling effects illustrated in Ken's hand crafted pottery. Raku differs from stoneware and earthenware products in that it does not serve a physical purpose like many forms of pottery. Many stoneware and earthenware products are both aesthetic and functional. Raku pottery does not offer the practical functionality of its sister ceramics, such as stoneware and earthenware. Raku is a pure ceramics art form that is to be enjoyed for its aesthetic qualities alone. Raku's crackled surfaces do not make functional vessels for holding liquids. Raku is often much more fragile than conventional stoneware and earthenware products. Raku is fired at lower temperatures than stoneware and earthenware products. Other local artists also teach at Banana Tree Studios.
