Banana Tree Studios is located between Hwy 32 and Hwy 11 along Stockton Creek on Electric Avenue in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. The Studio and Gallery opened in April 2006 and is located in a mid 1800's warehouse that was originally a distillery and flourmill. The structure served many uses, including the manufacture of tobacco plugs.

Ken and Kathy Macht moved from Vero Beach, Florida after being hit by two hurricanes in a three-week period in 2004. Ken is a silver and goldsmith creating all his gold and silver pieces completely by hand, including cutting the raw stones, polishing and designing his creations. He is also a potter working in stoneware, earthenware and Raku. Kathy is a pastel artist and has expanded into mixed media art. The Macht's goal is to assist local artists by making the public aware of the many fine artists in Fleming County.

My primary interest in sculpture, jewelry and ceramics isvariation and adaptations of existing forms. The ancients have mastered the ovoid, round and curvilinear and it remains only to work within these forms with personal expressions of color, pattern and proportion. Color, for me, is mostly from earthtones, sometime accenting more vivid reds and yellows.
Stoneware and RAKU comprise the majority of my work and are thrown and handbuilt or both. I use a limited number of glazes, but firing and reduction techniques provide and endless variation of pattern and color.
I have been an active potter for more than twenty years. I've studied with Glenda Taylor and Stephen Jepson in Florida and Adele Coulter in France. I have been involved in many workshops and seminars as well. I've been instructing for several years in my own studio.
My work has been shown in a number of galleries, public and private, and has been purchased by collectors in several states and countries including France, Ireland, Britain, Denmark and China.

My introduction to pastels was in Arkansas where a local group of artists got together under the guidance of Bonnie Kay Belcher. The vibrancy of color and moods that I can achieve through the medium of pastels express my feelings as I view a sunset, a historical building, or some aspect of nature.
Recently, I took a course entitled Altered Books. The instructor, Jacquie Fort, challenged us to "No Boundaries" using techniques, materials, found objects, and new ideas as we played with mixed media. Bonds formed with the class and the Artchixs have continued meeting since 2002. We have shared new ideas, our "stash", and friendships. Collaboration on a book project culminated with the books being exhibited in several museums in South Florida.
